A Word from Darrell

Time to reflect…so soon!

The months have flown by, and it’s that time of the year again, where for some, it’s a race to the finish line and, for others, a cruise into the break. For most, the hope is to emerge refreshed and ready to go again when the new year kicks off.

Reflecting on the year, it was a mixed bag for the Trigg team. The cost to build – construction inflation – has risen close to 40% from the beginning of 2021 until the end of 2023, and with the current cost of finance for commercial lending, it has been a real challenge for us. We’ve been kept busy at Trigg HQ completing feasibilities for clients, some of which didn’t proceed due to uncertainty and the cost of building, including the cost of finance. We had a delay of 12 months starting one project, and another significant project that we and the client expected to start was put on hold indefinitely. All of this made the year a challenging one for our business and the team.

On a brighter note, the Ruakaka Recreation Centre is in full swing, and a couple of significant projects the team have been working on may be close to a start, so watch this space! There are also plenty of other projects, some significant, that the team are working hard on in the background to get them to site. The great thing about the Trigg approach is that by getting involved in a project from the very beginning, often at the idea stage, we can work with clients to ensure all their project deliverables are met and, importantly, troubleshoot any problems throughout the design, so they don’t turn up during construction!

So, while 2023 has been a challenge, we’ve been beavering away in the background, continuing to add value to our clients’ projects and preparing for the busy year 2024 is shaping up to be.
