Locked Down – Life in a Bubble

I’m writing this article from my dining room on Day 10 of the Alert Level 4 lockdown — as we are adjusting to the new norm for the immediate future, and wondering what the long-term outlook will be for our businesses and the industry as a whole.

New Offices for the Trigg Team

At the end of last year, we moved into our new Head Office at 16 Marsden Bay Drive, Marsden Point, on the mouth of the Whangarei harbour. As well as needing larger premises to accommodate our rapidly expanding operation, our new base also puts us at the heart of development in the region.

8500 Sqm in Eight Months

We recently completed construction of two 4000sqm world-class bulk stores at Marsden Point. The project was designed and built in just 32 weeks – and the Trigg team were able to get the client in to start their fit-out three weeks ahead of schedule.

Trigg Construction Up for the Challenge

Marsden Point based commercial construction company Trigg is not a builder but rather a construction partner, says director Darrell Trigg.

“We aim to assist clients from the start of their project to the finish. Early contractor involvement and working with the team from day one speeds up the project, solves problems early and means we can all work together from the outset for the best end result.

Wall’s Go Up on Hundertwasser’s Iconic Arts Centre

Work on the Hundertwasser Art Centre with Wairau Māori Art Gallery is well underway, and it’s exciting to see the walls go up on one of New Zealand’s most challenging and complex commercial builds. Trigg Construction is the main contractor for the project, and MD Darrell Trigg says, “It’s an amazing thing to be part of as everything is bespoke, no two details are allowed to be the same, and every window in the building is a different shape and size, but I’m proud to say that the Trigg team are once again proving up to the challenge”.

Government Ditches Lowest Price Contract Model

As of 1 October this year, the Government has ditched its ‘‘lowest price’’ procurement model for construction contracts. The new guidelines –mandatory for 130 government agencies – set out a broader set of considerations for multi-million dollar government contracts which consider the financial health of the construction company, the health and safety of workers and the environmental health of the building. We think this approach will drive far better outcomes for everyone – the Government, industry and the taxpayer.
