Stair Climbing is a Family Affair

Share This:

Darrell and Marlene are huge supporters of a whole range of community causes and organisations, but stair climbing is one that’s a family affair. Marlene regularly completes Stadium Stomps and Darrell, Chief Fire Officer of the Ruakaka Volunteer Fire Brigade, participates in Firefighter Stair Climbs.

At the recent Auckland Sky Tower corporate challenge, the Trigg Construction team of Marlene, Darrell and daughter Amy climbed 1103 stairs and raised $7,000 for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand. This year they have also travelled to events in New York, Calgary, Melbourne and Sydney.

Marlene says, “Climbing stairs is a small battle compared to the battles some people wage, and as a family and a business we’re proud to do our bit to make more research possible, and that battle a little easier”.

The final climb for 2019 was the FIRIES Sydney Sky Tower Challenge for Motor Neurone Disease (MND). The event raised over $770,000 to help find a cure for MND, and this one was especially personal to Darrell and Marlene. Darrell conquered Sydney’s tallest tower climbing 1505 steps in honour of their friend and life member of the Ruakaka Volunteer Fire Brigade who has MND.
